In May 2003 BCS won the Australian Design Award of the Year for our development of the BetaChek G5 blood glucose meter. The National Manager of the Australian Design Awards, Mr Brandon Gien, said: "This year's Awards received an unprecedented level of entries and the competition was extremely high. The BetaChek G5 joins products such as the winged keel, the Cochlear Ear Implant and the Solar Sailor in winning the top design industry honour."

The Australian Design Award committee stated that the "streamlined form and brilliant software-electronics capability provide the world's fastest and most accurate diabetes test".
